Quaker Valley Wrestling HISTORY

The Quaker Valley Wrestling Association was founded in October, 2012, through the vision of Sewickley Heights resident, Jason Richey.  Jason, a high school and college wrestler himself, founded the organization with the insight he had from his own benefits of having wrestled, for the good of his community, school district, friends & family.  Jason partnered with community friends that had young children in the Quaker Valley School District to bring a vision of a competitive community wrestling program with opportunities for all kids of any shape, size, gender or background to fruition. Jason and QV Wrestling Board Members have consistently strived to ensure the program is available to everyone in the Quaker Valley School District boundaries, without regard to financial or familial support resources.

In that first year, the program started a Youth Program and participated in 2012-13 competitions.  The following year (2013-14), Quaker Valley School District entered into a co-op for Junior- and Senior-High School wrestling with Moon Area School District, competing in the PIAA AAA conference, WPIAL division (District 7).  This co-op existed through the 2015-16 season.

In 2016, the Quaker Valley High School Athletic Department agreed to support their own Junior- and Senior-High School teams, funded by the Quaker Valley Wrestling Association.  Quaker Valley began competing in the 2016-17 season in PIAA AA conference, SW Region, WPIAL division (District 7).  Through the 2020-21 season, QVWA continued to be the financial sponsor of the program.  Beginning in the 2021-22, the Quaker Valley School District formally approved the full adoption of the program.  QVWA continues to provide additional support from an administrative and financial perspective to the program, as-needed, aided by many generous Corporate and Family sponsors.
